SO as I said on the show we are going to set up an aquarium.
I thought what I would do as a fun and more educational way to have a Podcast tank, would be to talk you through how I get a pet.
First lets talk budget: In this case I own a roughly 5 gallon plastic tank, a variety of rocks (plastic and natural), a small filter, and an ultraviolet light.
THAT IS A LOT! So we have a variety of animals we can accomodate with simply getting water and the proper chemicals and food and plopping the animal or plant in.
HOWEVER: the important item I am not buying is a heater. This is extremely limiting for an aquarium. Nothing tropical- I am also not setting up a salt water tank- and probably nothing amphibian. I like the look of a tank filled with water: so nothing that needs land.
What is important to note is how I am starting this process. I have not said what animal I like, Or what looks cool, or cute etc. Instead I ADMITTED MY WEAKNESS. I’ve identified how much I can spend and how much I have.
So next what I do is look at something I want to learn about. I woke up this morning and said “Do underwater plants have flowers?” I spent a few minutes learning that NO they do not.
But it made me realize the turtles I own have always been too strong to have plants in their tank ( they uproot them out of curiousity 🙂 ).
So I am for sure getting some plants. Since this Podcast Tank will be dedicated to plants any animals that go in should be cohabitative.
SO MY NEXT JOURNEY is to find out about snails. I know snails are an issue when buying aquatic plants so snails must like plants.
